A village lunch that wasn't on any itinerary and was the thing we still talk about. Against that, the Guwahati leg took five hours in traffic and ate most of a day, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.

Appreciated, Manish. We've taken the point about pacing and have cut one drive out of this itinerary entirely.
Getting to the living root bridge before anybody else was on the path. Not perfect — so little was fixed that some days drifted, which won't suit everyone — but it didn't take much away from the rest.

The drive out to Dawki, where we were on the water by eight and had it almost to ourselves. The whole thing was organised without ever feeling packaged, and we were never once left wondering what happened next.

Riding out of Ziro with a support van that turned up exactly where it said it would. Against that, a permit check held us up for half a day and nobody had warned us it was likely, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.

The walk down to the double-decker root bridge, which our captain paced so we stopped where we wanted rather than where the schedule said. Not perfect — rain closed the Nongriat path and we lost the root bridge day entirely — but it didn't take much away from the rest.

Camping above the valley on the second night, which none of us expected to be the high point. Against that, the hotel on the first night was a clear step below the rest of the trip, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.
