A village lunch that wasn't on any itinerary and was the thing we still talk about. Not perfect — the hotel on the first night was a clear step below the rest of the trip — but it didn't take much away from the rest.

How little of it was scheduled — we were asked each morning what we felt like. Against that, messages before the trip took a day or two to get answered, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.

Camping above the valley on the second night, which none of us expected to be the high point. Against that, the hotel on the first night was a clear step below the rest of the trip, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.
