Camping above the valley on the second night, which none of us expected to be the high point. Against that, the hotel on the first night was a clear step below the rest of the trip, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.

Appreciated, Karan. We've taken the point about pacing and have cut one drive out of this itinerary entirely.
Getting to the living root bridge before anybody else was on the path. The whole thing was organised without ever feeling packaged, and we were never once left wondering what happened next.

The drive out to Dawki, where we were on the water by eight and had it almost to ourselves. Not perfect — rain closed the Nongriat path and we lost the root bridge day entirely — but it didn't take much away from the rest.

Riding out of Ziro with a support van that turned up exactly where it said it would. Against that, messages before the trip took a day or two to get answered, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.

Our permits being sorted before we landed, so we rode on day one instead of queuing. Not perfect — the Guwahati leg took five hours in traffic and ate most of a day — but it didn't take much away from the rest.

The walk down to the double-decker root bridge, which our captain paced so we stopped where we wanted rather than where the schedule said. The whole thing was organised without ever feeling packaged, and we were never once left wondering what happened next.

The mechanic who rebuilt a derailleur by torchlight and had us moving by seven. Against that, there were two more people in the group than we'd been told to expect, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.

Thank you for being straight with us, Karan. You're right that the trip wasn't level throughout, and we're rebuilding that middle section for the coming season.
How little of it was scheduled — we were asked each morning what we felt like. Not perfect — so little was fixed that some days drifted, which won't suit everyone — but it didn't take much away from the rest.
