There were two more people in the group than we'd been told to expect, and we were told about it far too late to plan around. A village lunch that wasn't on any itinerary and was the thing we still talk about was genuinely good, which made the rest more frustrating.

Deepa, I'm sorry — this isn't the trip we sell. We should have told you far earlier, and I've changed how we brief groups when conditions turn. Please contact us directly; I'd like to put it right.
The drive out to Dawki, where we were on the water by eight and had it almost to ourselves. Not perfect — the hotel on the first night was a clear step below the rest of the trip — but it didn't take much away from the rest.

Getting to the living root bridge before anybody else was on the path. Against that, so little was fixed that some days drifted, which won't suit everyone, and for what we paid I'd expect the whole trip to be at the level of its best day.

How little of it was scheduled — we were asked each morning what we felt like. Not perfect — the hotel on the first night was a clear step below the rest of the trip — but it didn't take much away from the rest.

The walk down to the double-decker root bridge, which our captain paced so we stopped where we wanted rather than where the schedule said. The whole thing was organised without ever feeling packaged, and we were never once left wondering what happened next.
